Yes, you can have subtle teeth straightening

Straighter teeth are healthier teeth. They are easier to keep free from plaque and they are less likely to crumble away through overuse. But oral health is not the only reason many people are choosing to get their teeth straightened as adults. The other big reason is that having a great smile is good for your emotional and social wellbeing too.

The problem for many adults who would like to get their teeth straightened is that it’s not possible for them to present a professional image and have metal bracket and wire braces on their teeth. Imagine going to a solicitor and finding they have to got braces on. It would be hard to trust their competence when they look like a teenager. Or imagine being a teacher in a secondary school. Would your students be more or less likely to do as you tell them if you are trying to maintain discipline through a set of metal braces?

Fortunately, there is an easy way to get your teeth straightened and still look like a grown up, and that’s with a nifty device called Invisalign that we have here at College Street Dental Centre in Petersfield.

Invisalign replaces brackets and wires with very thin transparent plastic aligners. These mouth guard-style straighteners have carefully positioned ridges and bumps inside them that press on your teeth to guide them gently into a straighter position.

Whereas braces are periodically tightened to maintain pressure on the teeth, Invisalign users maintain progress by swapping one aligner for the next one in a series every 7-10 days. It takes about this time for the jawbone to dissolve and rebuild itself around the teeth to relieve the pressure.

Invisalign users love the fact that once the aligners are in place, they are very hard to see. They can go to work and no one will be any the wiser about their straightening treatment. Also, because the aligners are removable for eating and drinking, meal times are not a hassle, and neither is cleaning the teeth.

Could Invisalign be right for you? Why not come in for a consultation?
