Wrinkle Reduction Injections
Hyperactivity of the facial expression muscles often results in the development of wrinkles and deep lines. Injecting botulinum toxin, commonly known as BOTOX, into the affected area temporarily weakens the underlining muscles responsible for wrinkling, giving the face a more relaxed and pleasant appearance. The wrinkles become smoother or disappear altogether. Botox injections will reduce dynamic wrinkles only. If static lines are present prior to treatment, they will still be present when muscle relaxation occurs as a result of your injections. The upper face static lines may soften with repeated regular treatments. Over time, if these static lines are still present and are of concern, dermal fillers may be used to soften them further.
The initial effects of treatment become visible within 48 to 72 hours. The full effect can take up to 30 days. Your facial impression will become more relaxed but by no means mask-like. The overall result is very natural. The effect of treatment generally last for 3-6 months.
Areas that can be treated by anti-wrinkle injections:
Upper face
These include forehead wrinkles, eleven lines (between the eyebrows), frown lines and crow’s feet. Precise injection techniques can also be used to lift the eyebrows in a non surgical brow lift.
Mid face
The use of wrinkle relaxing injections to the mid face requires an advanced understanding of the facial muscular anatomy. Anti wrinkle injections work by targeting the muscles in the face that cause the appearance of wrinkles and relaxing them so that the surface of the skin appears smoothed and line free. Examples of areas treated are Bunny lines, droopy nose tip and nasal flare.
Lower face
Anti wrinkle injections are used to treat a number of concerns in the lower face and neck. These range from wide jaw, teeth grinding, lip lines, gummy smile to marionette lines and neck bands (the lines that run horizontally across the neck).
For teeth grinding, Botulinum Toxin is injected into the masseter muscle to relieve clenching and grinding. This combined with a night-time splint, will not only create a more balanced appearance but also will protect the teeth from excessive wear. This treatment can only be performed in a CQC registered facility such as us.
Body
Anti wrinkle injections for the body are typically used to control excessive sweating, medically known as hyperhidrosis. Small doses of Botulinum Toxin are injected into the armpit to block the nerve signals that are responsible for sweating, temporarily inhibiting the overproduction of sweat. This is a highly successful treatment that brings great comfort to people with hyperactive sweat glands. This treatment can only be performed in a CQC registered facility such as us.
Important information for before and after your treatment
Before your appointment:
-
To minimise the risk of bruising, please avoid having caffeine containing drinks (e.g. coke, tea, green tea, coffee & pre-workout drinks) and alcohol 24 hours before your treatment. Some supplements such as Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and vitamin E can also increase the risk of bruising.
-
Filler injections should be avoided weeks before and weeks after COVID vaccination.
-
Botox treatment should be avoided at least week after receiving COVID vaccination.
After your Botox appointment:
-
Stay upright for 4 hours after treatment. This is to avoid pressure in the area and to avoid increased blood flow, which might cause the Botulinum Toxin to be dispersed and therefore not last as long.
-
Move the injected areas for the first hour after treatment by making pronounced facial expressions,e.g. frowning, smiling and raising your eyebrows. This helps the Botulinum Toxin reach the cells it needs to in order to work.
-
Avoid getting too hot for 48 hours after treatment, for example, strenuous exercise, drinking alcohol, hot weather, sun beds, sauna and steam room. This is because heat causes increased blood flow, which might cause the Botulinum Toxin to be dispersed and therefore not last as long.
-
Don’t apply makeup or have a spray tan for 6 hours after treatment. This is to avoid the risk of infection.
-
Don’t apply pressure when cleansing your face. Use gentle strokes away from the eyes. This is to avoid preventing the Botulinum Toxin to reach the cells it needs to in order to work.
-
Don’t wear tight caps/garments in the area that has been injected. This is to avoid preventing the Botulinum Toxin to reach the cells it needs to in order to work.
-
Don’t have facial massages, facial electro stimulation (CACI), dermaroller, semi-permanent make up, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion for weeks after your treatment.
